Where the money goes

Your rent is yours. We never take a percentage of it.

You’re about to let software stand between your tenants and your bank account. That deserves a straight answer rather than a trust badge, so here is exactly what happens to every dollar.

Where does my rent land?

In your own bank account. You open an account with Stripe in your own name and verify it with them directly — we never see or store your banking credentials. Your tenants’ rent is paid into that account on Stripe’s payout schedule.

Doornomy is the software that tells Stripe what to charge and records what happened. It is not your bank, and there is no Doornomy balance or wallet your money sits in.

What do you take?

Nothing from your rent. Not a percentage, not a per-payment fee, not a “platform fee” on the side. The only money Doornomy ever collects from you is the monthly subscription on the pricing page.

That isn’t a promotional rate someone can quietly change. The fee our payment processor would collect on a rent charge is set to zero everywhere in the code that could set it — there is no non-zero value to turn on.

  • A property manager takes 8–12% of collected rent. We take 0%.
  • No setup fee, no per-door transaction fee, no charge to receive money.
  • Your subscription is the whole relationship.

What do my tenants pay?

Nothing at all. No convenience fee, no service fee, no card surcharge, no portal charge — on any plan, permanently. Free tools commonly bill a tenant $3 to $10 every month to move their own rent. We don’t.

Tenants pay by US bank transfer. We don’t offer them a card, which is the usual excuse for a surcharge in the first place.

  • Autopay is theirs to set up and theirs to cancel.
  • Every payment produces a receipt with a confirmation number.
  • If your subscription ever lapses, your tenants can still pay you. We will not hold your rent collection hostage to collect our own bill.

Who holds the security deposit?

You do. A deposit settles into your account like any other payment. Doornomy records it as money you owe back to the tenant and runs the statutory return-and-itemization clock against it, so the deadline shows up before it’s a problem.

We are not an escrow agent and we hold no trust funds. Complying with your state’s deposit rules is still yours — we make the dates and the arithmetic impossible to lose track of.

What if a payment goes wrong?

A bank transfer can be returned days after it looks settled, and a tenant can dispute one. Both are ordinary. Both are handled in the app, and the ledger reverses itself so your books stay true rather than quietly drifting.

When that happens the money is recovered from your account, and any processor fee is yours. We’d rather say that plainly than let you discover it later: a returned payment is a real reversal, not a display glitch.

Ledger · 1C Cedar StReturned payment
1 JulRent charged — July1,450.00
1 JulPayment received(1,450.00)
6 JulReversal — bank return R011,450.00
Balance due1,450.00

The original entries are never edited. A return posts its own reversing lines, dated the day it happened — which is why the books still add up afterwards, and why the charge simply reads unpaid again.

What we don’t do

The limits matter as much as the features, so here they are plainly.

  • We don’t pay your contractors. You pay them directly. We record the expense; we don’t move the money.
  • We don’t lend, advance or guarantee rent. No early payouts, no cash advances.
  • We don’t hold your funds. There is no balance or stored value anywhere in Doornomy.
  • We don’t charge applicants. Where a credit and background report is used, the applicant buys it directly from the reporting agency and we receive none of it.
  • We don’t sell your data or your tenants’. See the privacy policy.

The mechanics, if you want them

For the accountants, and for anyone reviewing this business: Doornomy runs two completely separate money flows that share no code path.

  • The subscription — landlord to Doornomy, billed through Stripe Billing on our own account. This is our entire revenue.
  • The rent — tenant to landlord, as a Stripe destination charge against the landlord’s own Stripe Express connected account, by ACH only, with the application fee at zero.

Because rent moves as a destination charge, a refund or chargeback is drawn against our platform balance and recovered from the connected account. We say so rather than claiming the money never passes near us — that would be the comfortable description, not the accurate one.

If you’re reviewing us and want any of this evidenced rather than asserted, write to support@doornomy.com and you’ll get specifics.
